DO NOT SKIP THIS PSALM!

READ PSALM 107

THE LORD’S STEADFAST LOVE CONSOLES US EVERY DAY!

Psalm 107:1-2
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble

The psalm begins with an exclamation that reminds me of the reaction of a crowd that participates in some exciting event. I imagine people who jump on their feet and exclaim what they cannot hold in anymore.

THE LORD IS GOOD!
HE HAS CHOSEN TO LOVE ME FOREVER!
HE REDEEMED ME WHILE I WAS IN TROUBLE!
I AM SO THANKFUL!
I CANNOT HOLD IT IN ANYMORE!

While reading this psalm, an ongoing pattern becomes obvious. This pattern reflects our lives, for it exposes our ongoing sinfulness, while magnifying the steadfast love of God. I consider my own ingrained sins, and am humbled by the unchanging, unwavering love of God. Let this psalm remind you of your condition, then refresh you with the consolation you have received from the Lord, and energize you with God’s caring intervention into your life, prompted by His love for you.

THE CONDITION
Psalm 107:4-5
Some wandered in desert wastes,
finding no way to a city to dwell in;
hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted within them.

THE CONSOLATION
Psalm 107:8
Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!

Psalm 107:9
For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

THE CONDITION
Psalm 107:10
Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
prisoners in affliction and in irons,

THE CONSOLATION
Psalm 107:13-14
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
and burst their bonds apart.

Psalm 107:15
Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!

THE CONDITION
Psalm 107:17
Some were fools through their sinful ways,
and because of their iniquities suffered affliction;

THE CONSOLATION
Psalm 107:19-20
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He sent out his word and healed them,
and delivered them from their destruction.

Psalm 107:21
Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!

THE CONDITION
Psalm 107:25-27
For he commanded and raised the stormy wind,
which lifted up the waves of the sea.
They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths;
their courage melted away in their evil plight;
they reeled and staggered like drunken men
and were at their wits' end.

THE CONSOLATION
Psalm 107:28-29
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He made the storm be still,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.

Psalm 107:31
Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!

THE CONCLUSION
Psalm 107:43
Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things;
let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD.

Wisdom comes from the fear of the Lord. We do not presume on God’s love. Our life should be changed!

Romans 6:1-4
        What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

We rest in deep gratitude that our salvation, our hope, is based upon God’s steadfast love.

Romans 5:1-2
        Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

We live as trophies of God’s grace and we boast only in the work of Christ!

Galatians 6:14
        But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

WE MUST REACT TO GOD’S IMMEASURABLE GRACE!
