Psalm 93
The LORD reigns; he is
robed in majesty;
the
LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes,
the world is established; it shall never be moved.
Your
throne is established from of old;
you
are from everlasting.
The
floods have lifted up, O LORD,
the
floods have lifted up their voice;
the
floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier
than the thunders of many waters,
mightier
than the waves of the sea,
the
LORD on high is mighty!
Your
decrees are very trustworthy;
holiness
befits your house,
O LORD, forevermore.
This is a psalm that can
be read quickly, without really producing in us the amazement, gratitude,
praise, and worship it should.
Jehovah reigns in regal
majesty with total power and with no rivals!
Dear friends, even today
as I deal with difficult situations, if I reflect on who God is and the
privilege of having a relationship with Him, I am given much confidence and
serenity.
The fact that God reigns
is a reality!
Colossians 1:15-20
He is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were
created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for
him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he
is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from
the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the
fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself
all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his
cross.
Every thing was created
through Christ; we are not even capable of comprehending all that He created.
God created all, He did it for His good pleasure, and today He sustains all,
and thus has preeminence over all.
What man believes about
God does not change or diminish the fact that God is in total majestic control.
Man’s unbelief offends God. Our unbelief is certainly treason towards God. When
we look at people as those in control of our lives and destiny, we are
diminishing the glory of God. When we question the wisdom in our circumstances,
we are again diminishing the glory of God.
The cost of God’s reconciling
us to Himself was the death on the cross of our Savior Jesus Christ. Do we
realize the measure of offense that our sins and reactions to God has produced?
The psalmist reminds us
that the world is established. It is firm and it’s been this way from the
beginning because God’s throne has been established in eternity passed. Our
security comes in the fact that God will never be dethroned.
God is powerful! There is
no event that escapes His view, or that He is not powerful enough to control. There
is not a person doing anything on earth that God could not stop. Jesus’ earthly
miracles proved His power over nature, over people, over death. The amazing
thing is that God is not reacting to events by controlling them after they
occur, but He is the one Who ordains them.
These truths need to
affect our lives! They need to make a difference!
In the psalmist they
produced trust and a desire for holiness.
Stop and think of what a
trusting person will not do. A trusting person will not fear for the future, will
not be angry, will not complain, will not rebel, and will not live dejected
like a victim.
Those who know Christ will
recognize His holiness and be driven to living holy lives. Discontent feeds our
sinful lust, and sinful uncontrolled desire will always produce further sin.
Sin will always produce consequences in our lives.
Reread the psalm and pray
through it!
Probably the first thing
it will produce is repentance for our lack of trust in God. Just the fact that
we can confess our sins and know that we will be forgiven should humble us. As
we meditate, an amazing confidence should strengthen us, knowing Who controls
our life. Finally, a desire for purity should drive us!
Our frowns should be
transformed into smiles. Our fears should disappear. Our bitterness should turn
into sweet dependence on God. Our anger should be changed into love. Our desire
to have our perceived rights should yield to joyful submission.
Our song should be like that
of the familiar doxology:
PRAISE GOD, FROM WHOM ALL BLESSING FLOW;
PRAISE HIM, ALL CREATURES HERE BELOW;
PRAISE HIM ABOVE, YE HEAVENLY HOST;
PRAISE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST.
PRAISE GOD, FROM WHOM ALL BLESSING FLOW;
PRAISE HIM, ALL CREATURES HERE BELOW;
PRAISE HIM ABOVE, YE HEAVENLY HOST;
PRAISE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST.
